A eulogy

"The time has come." Quipped the bird.
"Tonight I will challenge Akron in honorable combat, one will comeaway."

Aye, thats what he said. We knew the power o' the mad liche, but Atross, the red pheonix, wasn't listenin. He knew what he had to do.

He felt the Dark presence o' this thing told us to go outs an' scout.

We found the liche, an so did Atross, he backed us off, an started fighting.

Twarent much o' a fight, we knew it wouldn't. All we coulds do was watchas our sworn protector, our red feathered brother, grew weaker with every darkspell.

We Cried out for mercy, we cried out in vain. Akron just chuckled. I sawthe hope burn in Atross eyes, even as bravely took the killing blow.

I cradled Atross torn body against my chest as I walked back to TUR tower. Afraid to look atanyone; barely able to contain my anguish.

We gathered our friends, we gathered our hopes, we shared our memories.

Acres of wood was collected. A pyre was built, we placed Atross at the apex, wrapped in the finest linens of the land.

The fire was reported to be seen as far as Yew proper, reaching into the heavens as we knew Atross would prefer to be delivered.

Some of us stayed and sang songs of the virtues, some covered there faces and wept silent tears.

Born of fire, lived as a blaze, died as a firestorm. We honor thee Noble bird. You gave your life to save a world, you gave your soul to protect a land that shunned you. And you gave others light in this world of obsidian dark.
